Dominica to begin new phase of housing in Jimmit: Melissa Skerrit

Dominica: Minister of Housing and Urban Development Melissa Skerrit has unveiled plans for an upcoming development phase in the Jimmit area. She said that this would be Phase 7 of the area, with housing lots between 6000 sq ft and 10000 sq ft to be constructed. According to the information, the map to construct the houses have already been laid out and the preparatory and infrastructural work to begin soon. The Government of Dominica have contracted the Caribbean Concrete Ltd to begin construction of the new houses. While announcing the development, Minister Melissa Skerrit said, “New lots available soon!! The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is proud to announce another phase of development on the horizon! The dream of your own home is not out of reach! Call to apply and for further information!” The Housing Revolution Programme of Dominica has been providing hundreds of houses for people who have suffered climate disasters. More than 1500 homes have been distributed to thousands of families in a path to provide 5000 homes.

According to the Dominican government, several housing projects have been completed in the Bellevue Chopin, Cotton Hill, East Coast, Georgetown, Grand Bay, Jimmit, Stockfarm and Roseau Upper River Bank areas. This is the new phase which will begin in the Jimmit area to provide affordable houses to needy families.

The island nation is also working on several other ongoing housing projects in Joe Burton, Scotts Head, Eggleston, Grand Bay Ville, Canefield, Vieille Case, Paix Bouche and Woodford Hill constituencies. The Housing Project in Dominica aims to help recover the damages suffered by the residents during Hurricane Maria in 2017. The houses which are being built now are climate resilient homes which are expected to overcome any future disasters related to climate changes.

With the announcement of the construction of a new phase of housing development in Jimmit, citizens and residents took to Facebook to laud the government and Minister Melissa Skerrit for their continuous support to help needy families.
