Dominica receives 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Mexico.
Dominica received 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Mexico on Thursday, February 19, 2022. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has informed about the donation and noted that the stock of the vaccines will help the country to boost its vaccination drive.

While notifying the delivery of the vaccines, PM Skerrit outlined that the Mexican government have aided Dominica to boost the stock of the vaccine that is already available to every eligible citizen of the country.

PM Skerrit took to Twitter and cited, "On Thursday evening, Dominica received another supply of life-saving vaccines from the Government of Mexico to boost the stock that is already available to every eligible Dominican. I thank the government and people of Mexico for this generous donation".

Further, the Foreign Ministry of Mexico have also informed about the donation of the vaccine and asserted that Mexico had reaffirmed its principles of guaranteeing equitable access to vaccines to the nations who need them.

The foreign Ministry of Mexico noted, "Mexico donates COVID-19 vaccines to Dominica and reaffirms its principles of guaranteeing equitable access to vaccines and promoting international cooperation and its fraternal ties with Latin America and the Caribbean".

The Foreign Ministry of Mexico has further underscored that donations were made in collaboration with the nations of the region, following the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The acting Health Minister Kent Edwards and the Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Letitia Lestrade-Wyke of Dominica have received vaccine doses from Mexico.

The Direct Relief Organization of Mexico have donated the vaccines, and it was transported by the aircraft belonging to the Mexican Air Force.

The Executive Director of the Mexican for International Development Cooperation, Laura Elena Carrillo, has led the mission with the collaboration of Foreign Ministry personnel from the areas for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights and Latin America and the Caribbean. They further asserted that the donation was made to uplift the vaccination drive in the nations.

Meanwhile, Mexico has also donated the vaccines to St Vincent and the Grenadines on February 18, 2022.

Earlier, on September 21, 2021, Dominica has received shipment of Pfizer vaccine from the United States. Prime Minister Skerrit received the vaccine shipment at the Douglas Charles Airport.

Since February 16, 2022, a total of 29400-second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the island of Dominica, while 32027 people have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
