Dominica Cable Car: Work continues swiftly on Foundation 16, helicopter permitted to lift material

Dominica: The work on the World’s Longest Cable Car in the Commonwealth of Dominica continues rapidly. According to the latest report, major works are ongoing at the Foundation 16 tower with the helicopter flying the material from the bottom to the top station.

Last week, the United States government granted the permit to ABL Holdings to allow the use of helicopter on the cable car project. Soon after the permit, the workers started using it to continue the work rapidly on the site. Apart from the use of helicopter, several other works are also being done on the site which includes digging huge holes at the top station needed to build a strong base for the installation and assembly of towers. The helicopter will be used to airlift heavy loads from the bottom and bring them to the designated areas, easing the whole construction process.

This significant project began in Dominica in January 2022 and spans across 6.6 km. The cable car will take visitors from the capital Roseau to the world’s second-largest hot spring – Boiling Lake, making it a major tourist hotspot in the island nation. Visitors will be able to reach the lake in just 20 minutes which now takes a seven hour hike.

In addition to this, a total of 210 locals are employed at the site who are indulged in the construction of this major project. In January, 6 building were constructed including 3 bunkhouses, 1 kitchen/dining room, 1 wash house and 1 office and these were flown up to the Top Station using the helicopter.

Recently, Housing Minister Melissa Skerrit and Tourism Minister Denise Charles also visited the site to check the ongoing progress and were impressed to see that the project has generated employment for so many locals of the country.

The rapid progress of the project is being lauded by the citizens of Dominica who are eagerly awaiting its completion. People also took to Facebook to appreciate the government for this major endeavour.

“Soon the Nature isle will be the most visited Caribbean island when this is completed.Even those who never intended to visit the Boiling lake due to bad knees will be able to do so with this access,” wrote a user named Cynthia Andre while another user said, “Dominica is on the move The cable car is coming. A very impressive piece of work going on there.”
