The Dominica Labour Party on Sunday officially launched Joseph Isaac as MP candidate for Roseau North constituency at Lindo Park, Goodwill. Among a large number of DLP supporters wearing red-coloured outfits, food stalls and famous vocalists of country, senior leaders of DLP rolled out the achievements of the government after hurricane Maria and slammed opposition for doing nothing during the challenging period. Counting on his relatives in Roseau North constituency, Isaac said “My DNA is planted in Roseau North.”

Joseph Isaac, who shifted from United Workers Party (UWP) to DLP last year expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and other political office holders for believing in his vision to serve the public.

“Can you remember the images on our faces in September of 2017, less than two years ago did you think we could be here today. All of us faced challenges, we lost everything after Maria, but we are strong and we are steel strong, still standing here today as Dominicans. when your country is down, all hands should come on deck, all hands should come to rebuild the country, not standing on the side and criticizing. My decision to put Dominica first before the party was an endorsement of Roosevelt Skerrit as he is the best man to lead this country. I praised Dr Roosevelt Skerrit while I was in opposition as well, while they wanted to kill me.”, said Joseph Isaac during his speech at the event.

Lashing out on opposition party, UWP Isaac said that being in opposition is not an excuse to do nothing for your constituency. “Today, I want to record that my exit from UWP was based on principles, I tried to convince them that there is a better way to compete in politics, fundamentally the issue was about Dominica first, but they were not convinced. I wrote to the leader and placed on record my concerns and indicated that I will not be contesting on UWP ticket in upcoming elections.”, he asserted.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit applaud Joseph Isaac and said “Joseph Isaac said back then that the situation in the country was too grave for the traditional factional politics, and that he was up to the task of assisting with the rebuild process. That is when I said to myself, this gentleman means well, but he is lost with those people. So I was not surprised when he shared, publicly, his disgust at the failure and inability of Lennox Linton to listen. Joseph Isaac was about the country. Others on that side were about party supremacy. I sent a message to Joseph Isaac that if he was so minded, there was a place in the House of Labour for him. I said to him we needed help, and if he was willing to serve, a place would be found for him to not just talk, but to act and serve in the interest of the people of Dominica and he choose the right path to serve his people.”

On the other hand, PM lashed out at opposition leader Lennox Linton who went on international TV to criticize Citizenship by Investment program. “It is that same CBI Program that is today helping to pay our bills. It is the same CBI Program that Lennox Linton sought to destroy, which is today shielding you, the taxpayer, from having to dig deeper into your pockets to pay for the modernization that is taking place around us.”, he asserted.

“We are not rebuilding Dominica. We are building The New Dominica”, PM said.

In addition to this, the Health Minister and MP candidate for Petite Savanne, Dr Kenneth Darroux took it over to developments done by government and said, “New Dominica-China hospital is indeed an example of our promise to provide you modern and affordable health care facilities. I announce today that coming late August, phase 1 of the hospital will be open to serve you. The radiology department with complete modern state of the art imaging equipment, brand new CT scan, digital ultrasound machine, high-intensity focus ultrasound and first time in Dominica’s history, brand new MRI scan machine are already installed and are working within our country. We will soon see the commencement of a long-awaited Marigot hospital and construction of 12 brand new modern health centres in communities across Dominica.”

First lady and DLP MP candidate for Roseau Central, Melissa Skerrit that she is registered voter of Roseau North voter and said that “I say we the voters of Roseau North Deserves Better and we will vote for Joseph Isaac. Letting Isaac go was the biggest mistake of UWP.”
