CARICOM, CDEMA, CDB and RSS joint team reaches Bahamas

After the tragic devastation by hurricane Dorian in Bahamas, the Caribbean communities have come forward to rescue the island from destruction. Following the same, a joint team comprising major relief agencies reached Bahamas to assess the damage to the country by natural catastrophe.

The teams comprising the representatives of Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Regional Security System (RSS) have reached Bahamas today.

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley said that the delegation hopes to assess better awareness of the situation in Bahamas following the passage of category 5 hurricane Dorian.

According to information, the team comprising all the delegation reached Nassau around 9 am in the morning, where Brensil Rolle - Minister of the Public Service and National Insurance, Jeffery Lloyd - Minister of Education, Renwood Wells – Minister of Transport, Dionsio D’Aguilar – Minister of Tourism and others were present there to receive the delegation.

However, during a press meet at Barbados CARICOM chairman Allen M. Chastanet said “Immediately, the emphasis must be on assisting our brothers and sisters in the Bahamas in getting back on their feed in the quickest possible time.”

The purpose of this visit is to assess the damage, analysis of the situation and see where CARICOM can provide more immediate support in relief process.
