Belize: A devastating house fire on Friday has tragically claimed the life of a two-year-old boy, Jayden August, while her mother, Malika August, remains critical and is fighting for her life.
According to the reports, both the victims were sleeping inside their residence located at Raccoon Street after 9:25 am on Friday when the fire broke out suddenly.
The house only had one exit, and the mother had to run through the fire to escape with baby Jayden, causing severe burns to both their bodies.
Following the incident, Malika and Jayden were both rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where the toddler succumbed to his injuries after some time.
The police officials from Precinct 2 CIB visited the hospital to assess the condition of the victims. Dr Villamil in the ICU reported that Malika August is still in a critical and unstable condition, while another Doctor confirmed that Jayden was pronounced dead by Dr. Garcia at 4:20 pm on Friday, April 26th.
It was also reported that the Belize National Fire Service conducted an investigation into the fire incident and determined that it was caused by something that was left on the stove.
Following the brutal and heartbreaking incident, the netizens have flooded the social media with condolences for both the victims, especially the toddler.
“So sad. It is always heartbreaking to get news that a poor helpless little baby dies from an injury that can be avoided and to see a woman injured trying to save a little baby without the father there to assist,” wrote a user named Norman, while another user said, “Praying for the mental health of the mother and speedy recovery. I know she must be depressed after trying to save them both, and the result is losing her baby.”
Another user named Marianne called the incident very sad and added, “Rest in peace, little angel. I know how much you suffer and experience the pain you and your mom went through.”
