Belize: Fiance says Patrick Faber was a "victim" after people call for his resignation over domestic abuse

Belize: United Democratic Party's Patrick Faber' fiancée, Dr Shanikka Arnold, come out to rescue him. She said he (Faber) was a victim, as she was struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder. Her statement comes as the call for Patrick Faber to resign becomes more widespread because of the accusation of domestic abuse. She Shanikka Arnold that she had been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and explained that it made her have violent episodes, which then led to dissociation and blurry memories. The majority of the statement goes into detail about how BPD has negatively affected her life, driving her close to the point of suicide many times. Still, she continued in her profession as a doctor and said she was afraid to seek help because of the stigma and because of possibly losing her own job.

In the statement, she repeatedly called Faber a victim and a hero for remaining with her throughout her episodes, reportedly putting aside his own wants and needs to take care of her during her worst times. She claimed that because of what she calls selfless behaviour, he has become, quote "a martyr" and has - she says - taken the fall for something that was her fault.

She adds that because fear of abandonment is a result of BPD, she is currently struggling with the fact that he has left the country. She admitted to wanting to take her life again but said that she was trying to be strong.

She then went on to say that she didn't feel re-victimized by Faber revealing her mental illness on "Uncut" but that she did feel that way when the episode was aired, even though the actual condition was censored.

And in her own version of events, she said that night of the alleged abuse, Faber was, quote, "A man burnt out from loving someone with a mental illness. He was a man who for a moment, a moment he needed, refused to compromise his right to space and his own personal self-care." End quote.

And while she didn't say whether he had indeed injured her with his car and with a hammer and threatened to kill her dogs, she calls the report she gave "less than accurate."
