The Barbados based Caribbean Climate Outlook Forum (CariCOF) has issued a newsletter regarding the climate in the Caribbean. The forum has expected the year 2024 to be a year of extreme climatic conditions.

In the most recent newsletter from the forum, it reported the climatic conditions and on the basis of the trends and statistical conclusions it has forecasted a El Nino stirring up and record warm tropical type of temperature in the Atlantic zone.

The Caribbean is recently expecting and has been warned against extreme weather conditions in the upcoming times. AccuWeather a private US based weather forecasting service has predicted around twenty to twenty-five named hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin. It has also forecasted an extension in the hurricane season due to the rising temperatures above the sea level.

Caribbean Outlook Forum stated that the region is about to enter an intense heat season with repeatedly occurring heatwaves. This might also cause an early arrival of the wet season.

The frequency and intensity of the rain are expected to rise sharply and will carry the potential for floods and flash floods, especially in low-lying areas. This will cause a plethora of hazards to stir up. Only the ABC islands which are Aruba, Bonnaire and Curacao are expected to be in a better position due to their geographical positions.

The Caribbean Climate Outlook Forum further added that they are unsure about the frequency of the blitz of dry hot air into the Caribbean but if too frequent it can result in an unusual rainy season incorporating dry spells, record breaking heat and the potential of the forest fire.

CariCOF has warned against flash floods in the mountainous regions while it has also addressed the drought like conditions in places like French Guiana, Martinique and more severely affected areas like south of Belize, South of Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago and many others.

Recently, warnings related to climatic conditions have risen in the Caribbean; UN red alert, forecasting of named hurricanes and expected extreme temperatures. Such situations call for environmental measures to be taken seriously around the globe to reduce global warming like phenomenon, which are the root cause of climatic disturbances.
