Antigua And Barbuda receives $100,000 donation to fight COVID-19

State Insurance Company Limited donated EC $100,000 towards the government’s COVID-19 Vaccine Program in Antigua and Barbuda. It is one of the oldest indigenous organization in the country.

In the hand-over meeting, General Manager for State Insurance Company Limited, Lyndell Francis-Butler, presented over the cheque to Prime Minister Gaston Browne in his office on Queen Elizabeth Highway. Also read: Antigua And Barbuda to receive 24,000 doses of Astrazeneca vaccine in April

Accepting the donation on the part of the government and Antigua and Barbuda's people, Prime Minister Browne showed his gratitude to the General Manager and staff of the State Insurance company.

“I take this moment to give recognition on behalf of the Government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda for this very generous donation," added Prime Minister Browne.

PM Browne stated the assistance is an attestation that the government has not actively requested any contribution towards the program.

State Insurance Company Limited was started in 1977 mainly in answer to the common interest for the extent of international exchange leakage created in a foreign-dominated region. It was installed with a principal sum of EC $100,000 loan by the government and given the state of a Department of Government.

The conditions of this form of the system were obvious, not the least being the lack of flexibility in choice creating and the General Manager acting as Company sole being subjected to all the interest and lack of benefits of a corporate body.

It is also sensible to understand that as an autonomous body, it could attract more business. Consequently, the State Insurance Company Limited Act, 1985, set the structure and duties of State Insurance Company.
