Antigua and Barbuda: The Gilbert Agricultural Rural Development (GARD) Center suffered a crushing break-in over the weekend. Such a break-in made great loss to the center’s operations.
It negatively impacted its capacity to continue its programs of training and support to the vulnerable, unemployed, and underemployed segments of the community of Antigua and Barbuda. The damage done made a stoppage to the operations.
As per the reports, the thieves made off with all the training equipment, all the items in the chef’s kitchen, the AC units, water fountain, the seedlings and the locally produced soaps. The kitchen items included stoves, freezers, fridges and mixers.
The Gilbert Agricultural & Rural Development (GARD) Center is a leading training facility that targets youth and women who provide the positive entrepreneurial and employment alternatives.
It is the non-profit enterprise that relies heavily on donor support. And, it requires tremendous support by the donor stakeholders for the GARD Center intention to resume operations. Considerably, to recover the loss made, the GARD center is calling for the donor support.
“It will require tremendous support by the donor stakeholders for the GARD Center to resume operations,” calls the GARD Center.
The GARD Center deals with three of the aspects that are-
- Youth Services
- Entrepreneurship, and
- Agriculture
The GARD Center significantly provides vocational and business advice to help vulnerable young people to gain employable, technical and entrepreneurial skills to compete in a global work environment.
As well, it extends the services that could empower the youth in several ways and could foster insightful thoughts in them. The center even has provided to many to which the evidence is one of the testimonials by the beginners sewing student.
“The curriculum was very informative but also hands-on. While there, I learnt.,” she added.
And, the call for the donor support would offer great deal of benefits as the help provided would lead towards reoperations of the GARD Center. This would make a positive change in the nation by bringing best to the table.
