Amphibious Dredger to help eliminate flooding challenges in T&T
As the rainy season is approaching, the Ministry of Works and transport have taken new equipment in possession that would assist in excessive downpour days.  The new equipment Amphibious Multipurpose Dredger - is expected to provide two critical benefits for the Ministry that will eliminate the challenges previously faced by the drainage division. It would provide improved efficiency and effectiveness of desilting work on land and water. Not only that the Ministry of Works and transportation stated that the new Amphibious Multipurpose Dredger would also be helping in reducing the costs associated with contracting equipment from private contractors on an annual basis. The Amphibious Dredger has been procured by the Ministry to execute its 2021 Drainage Desilting Programme, ahead of the rainy season. Key features of Amphibious Dredger
  • It can move on dry land and into the water and return
  • It has multiple attachments which perform tasks such as Excavation, Piling, Hammering, Raking and Clamshell operation
  • It is self-propelling in water
  • It can operate from Sea into River or River into the sea
  • It possesses depth control monitoring
  • It can self-load and unload
As per the weather centre, the flooding in Trinidad and Tobago is caused by improperly disposed of waste, such as dropping in or around watercourses to as simply scattering gets stuck into drains, streams, and rivers during rainy days. This results in blockage or impeding of the water flows.
