About 28% population of St Kitts and Nevis received first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

St Kitts and Nevis: Immunizing over 28% of the population, the twin-island nation St Kitts and Nevis vaccinated 9,241 persons with Oxford Astra-Zeneca's Covishield vaccine by March 31, 2021.

During a COVID-19 press briefing at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Hazel Laws shared the update with statistics.

"We have reached 27.9 percent of our target population," said Dr Laws and noted that this is the number of people who received the first dose.

Health officials are urging other 33,037 people in St Kitts and Nevis to get the sting, representing 70% of the population needed for herd immunity.

The federation launched its vaccination campaign on February 22, 2021, about five weeks ago.

"We are doing pretty well," CMO Laws added, referring to comparative statistics from other countries.

There were a total of 44 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in St Kitts and Nevis, with 43 recoveries and no deaths. One person remains in isolation for recovery.
