ABHTA awards culinary scholarships to four young chefs

Four Young Chefs from small nation island, Antigua and Barbuda have been awarded with prestigious culinary scholarships by ABHTA.

Antigua and Barbuda: Young Chefs from small nation island, Antigua and Barbuda have been awarded with prestigious culinary scholarships by ABHTA (The Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association. Such a recognition is part of the Taste of Wadadli Junior Cook-Off Competition.

The competition showcased the talent and skills of local culinary students. And, four young chefs stunned the audience and judges with their exceptional skills. The ones who received scholarships involve three high school seniors. The list to them is –

  • Azarie Crump from Saint Joseph’s Academy
  • Shemiah Francis from All Saints Secondary School
  • Gregoryann Thomas from Sir McChesney George Secondary School

All these three students will receive the scholarship for two years at the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute. As the scholarships were granted to four students, one who is Ashauny Rattary of Antigua State College will receive the funding towards his studies in Food Science at the University of the West Indies, Mona in Jamaica.

Considerably, the scholarships provided will be worth EC $30,000 which is funded by the ABHTA’s Tourism Development Fund. Hotels which have their contribution in this include-

  • Hermitage Bay
  • Blue Waters Hotel
  • Curtain Bluff
  • Copper and Lumber Store Hotel, and
  • Jumby Bay Island Resort

And, through such an initiative, hotels’ commitment to the development of the local hospitality sector clearly can be seen towards the development of the local hospitality sector. On this, the chairman of ABHTA, Craig Marshall as well expressed his pleasure and highlighted achievements of the young chefs.

He outlined that the passion among them for culinary arts is inspiring and the association is committed towards supporting the educational journeys. The scholarships granted are subjective to the attestations that would nurture the future leaders associating with the hospitality sector.

There is a crucial role of the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute in fostering successful careers of the people associated with this profession. Such a significant part is played by providing essential skills and knowledge.
