Belize records 9 deaths and 362 new COVID-19 cases in four days

The COVID-19 continue to increase in Belize. Ministry of Health reported that the country recorded over 362 new cases and nine additional virus-related deaths.

The COVID-19 continue to increase in Belize. Ministry of Health reported that the country recorded over 362 new cases and nine additional virus-related deaths. The new cases include 205 females and 157 males

The ministry of health's data noted that the new cases and deaths were recorded in only four days, from September 10 to 13. Authorities said over 335 people also recovered from virus.

The positivity rate in Belize is relatively high. According to official data it is around 10.8%, while the fatality rate is 2.15% More than 40 people are hospitalized while 9 are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Majority of the cases are recorded in seven areas, including Cayo, Stann Creek, Toledo, Orange Walk, Corozal and Belize city.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness continues its COVID-19 vaccine campaign countrywide. Vaccines are now available for everyone; 18 years and older and Pfizer for Children ages 12 -17.

The authorities said people who received their first dose of coronavirus eight weeks ago must visit any public health facility to get their second jab.

The health ministry advised people to wear face masks, frequently wash their hands, maintain social distancing, and avoid gatherings. People are also advised to keep away from those who have flu-like symptoms.

People are outraged with the sudden increase in coronavirus cases; many went on social media to express their views.
