Mount St. John's Medical Centre renamed to Sir Lester Bird Mount St. John's Medical Centre

St John's Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda have renamed the Mount St. John's Medical Centre to the Sir Lester Bird Mount St. John's Medical Centre during a ceremony on Tuesday. The renaming of the state-of-the-art modern hospital, which was conceptualized, and completed by the then Prime Minister Sir Lester Bryant Bird and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, was held in a brief ceremony at the hospital. Director-General of Communications, Mr Maurice Merchant, officiated the ceremony. The ceremony included opening prayer and blessings from the Very Reverend Dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Ernest Flemming, and a brief biography of Sir Lester recited by Stephen Stewart, Head Boy of Antigua Grammar School, Alma Mater of Sir Lester. Remarks were given by Rodney Williams, Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Prime Minister, and Sir Molwyn Joseph, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, who were all former colleagues of Sir Lester Bryant Bird. Donyelle Bird, Daughter of Lester, offered the official response. The ceremony also featured musical renditions from pannist Khan Cordice, Director of Culture, and Arlen Seaton, Accompanied by Khadijah Simon, who performed one of Sir Lester's favourite songs, 'My Way, by Frank Sinatra.
