Malta: Rivaroxaban will be available to patients free of cost under POYC scheme, says Chris Fearne

Malta: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health, Chris Fearne, shared an update on his official Facebook account that Rivaroxaban would be provided free of cost to patients who use these medicines.

The Rivaroxaban medicine, which is similar to Rivaban and Xarelto, will now be available to patients under the scheme of Pharmacy of your Choice (POYC) in Malta.

Rivaroxaban helps to prevent blood clots like same as warfarin medicine.

The Health Ministry of Malta announced that patients who are already using Xarelto and Rivaban could get Rivaroxaban medicine free of cost under this scheme.

The patients will require to contact their doctors to set up an appointment at a special clinic which lies within the Primary Healthcare system. The patient will then get a prescription for the medicine from the clinic.

The Pharmacy of your Choice scheme (POYC) is a national pharmaceutical service that timely meets the requirements of over 150,000 patients of Malta, who are benefitted from medicines and pharmaceutical appliances which are given free of cost by the Maltese Government as per the legislation of Schedule V and Schedule II.

Furthermore, Chris Fearne highlighted that with the execution of this step, his ministry would fulfil another of its electoral promise within a few days.

On the other hand, the health minister of Malta, Chris Fearne, is continuously working towards bringing a change in the health sector of the country. Recently, he announced that the proposed amendments to IVF law had been passed with a large majority in the parliament.

Even during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the efforts of Chris Fearne along with his ministry proved to be beneficial for the whole country. The country now witnesses very few numbers of COVID-19 cases, and the death rate of the nation is also one of the lowest in the European region, which has stayed below 800 since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
