Strong Tropical Wave to cause heavy rain, thunderstorms for many days- Saint Lucia Met Service
Saint Lucia: A strong tropical wave linked with a broad area of low pressure will persist to create a large area of rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly over the southern half of the region during the forecasted period.  Satellite-derived wind data and radar images show that this system does not yet have a well-defined circulation centre. However, environmental conditions can become more conducive to development, and a tropical depression can form during the next few days if the system stays over open waters.  If necessary, an Air Force reconnaissance mission is scheduled to investigate the system this morning. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall with localized flooding and gusty winds are expected over portions of the Windward Islands. The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will persist in closely monitoring the progress of this system. At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Twelve was located near latitude 15.8 degrees north, longitude 31.2 degrees west or about 480 miles or 770 kilometres west of the Cabo Verde Islands. The depression is moving towards the northwest near eight mph or 13 km/h and is expected to remain over the open ocean. Tropical Depression Twelve is likely to dissipate in a couple of days. FORECAST FOR SAINT LUCIA FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS Winds are predicted to blow between the east-northeast and east-southeast near 26 mph or 43 km/h, with gusts near showers.  Weather: Cloudy and breezy with scattered showers, some of which will be heavy, along with isolated thunderstorms. Motorists and Residents in areas which are prone to flooding and landslides are advised to exercise caution.
