Saint Lucia Minister for Youth Development and Sports Kenson Casimir called on Saint Lucians to support the young people. The Minster made the statement during a joint press conference held between the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and the Saint Lucia Boxing Association on Thursday, 20th April 2023.

As Saint Lucia set to host the Champion of Champions Boxing tournament, the Sports Minister gave the formal endorsement. Like the two speakers before him, he also encouraged the Saint Lucian public to support the event.

During his address, Minister Kenson Casimir gave a thumbs up to the SLBA for their level of organization when he said, "Three years ago, there was no doubt in any Judge's mind which organization in terms of sports was the best run in Saint Lucia, in the end, the SLBA came out on top".

According to Minister Casimir, the initiatives undertaken by SLBA should have everybody on their P's and Q's at the next Sports Awards Ceremony (February 2024).

From the developmental program in the south, several young people are coming out and committed to this training program. It's very encouraging when you see young people that are spoken of in the most negative ways being placed in the discipline of a boxing program.

Two-time Coach of the Year, a boxing coach came in for high praise from the Minister. He said, "We continue to have some of the best coaches; Conrad Frederick, one of the most committed coaches you can find in any sport on the island continuing to do his best in our schools and at the Vigie Gym."

He added, "We also have the addition of a Cuban coach doing his thing in the south and Arthur Langelier, one of the best boxers Saint Lucia has ever produced, playing his part. I am encouraged by the direction that boxing is headed."

For the last few weeks, some people have seen what has happened in sports. Regional accomplishments in the pool (Carifta Swim Championship), on the track (Carifta Track and Field Championship), and football (CONCACAF

Nations League).

Some people have asked Casimir "if there is a Midas Touch to you being Minister, I tell them it is not just the Midas Touch; it's the Midas desire, love, and passion for young people and what they can do to transform a nation."

"So, when people pay lip service to sports, when people come to me as Minister and ask for a ticket for sporting activity as opposed to spending $5.00 for an Under 12 and $15.00 as an adult for you as an individual to show your desire to develop our young people. I say to them, make your contribution to sports," added the sports minister.

He said that when Saint Lucians go out and win, he feels proud and added, "We always need to ask ourselves what can we do, and what small can we do."
