Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, is looking forward to the Forty-Fourth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) which will be held in The Bahamas from February 15 2023. PM Pierre added that he would further the cause of regionalism with all his regional colleagues.

PM Philip J Pierre said that he is a strong advocate of regionalism and that greater cooperation amongst the nations will benefit the people of the Caribbean region.

"The work of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME) will assist in shaping and accelerating the desire for a more integrated region," added the PM.

This year is a significant marker in the history of CARICOM, and The Bahamas, as the nation and this association of great Caribbean countries will celebrate their 50th anniversary.

The 44th Regular Meeting will be held in-country as The Bahamas prepares to celebrate two key dates in history within days of each other. The country will attain its 40th year as a Member State of the Caribbean Community (but not the Common/Single Market) on July 4, 2023, and will celebrate its 50th Anniversary of Independence on July 10, 2023. Prime Minister Pierre is always at the forefront of helping his neighbouring countries and actively participates in the CARICOM meetings to understand the problems of other nations and discuss the present challenges and threats to overcome them as soon as possible. This cooperation is a significant part as it allows the leaders of CARICOM nations to cooperate on various matters of common interest. PM Pierre highlighted the issue of regionalism as he said that he wanted to discuss it with the other leaders. The citizens of Saint Lucia appreciated this as one of the social media users wrote, "Prime Minister, I'm pleased to see regionalism as a top priority of your government. The importance of the success and modernization of such institutions cannot be understated, particularly at this time. The islands of the region cannot fail; they must turn up."
