Opening ceremony: Caribbean week of Agriculture 2023

Breezes Resort and Spa, Nassau, The Bahamas witnessed the opening ceremony of the Caribbean week of Agriculture 2023 on 10th October.

Breezes Resort and Spa, Nassau, The Bahamas witnessed the opening ceremony of the Caribbean week of Agriculture 2023 on 10th October. The Caribbean region’s premiere agricultural event has already been started from 9th of October whereas the official opening ceremony took place on 10th of October and it will be celebrated till 13th October 2023. The Caribbean week of Agriculture is basically a meeting which enlightens that how agriculture plays a crucial role in stabilizing environmental, social and economic statistics of the country.

The theme under which this event is being held is entitled “Accelerating Vision 25 by 2025”, which states and highlights the importance of agriculture for it’s growth prospects and also the need to adopt modern technologies to cope up with such innovations.

Caricom is a Caribbean Community which comprises of 15 Caribbean nations. It is an organization which promotes innovation and productivity and also ensures the protection of the human rights of the citizens.

Dr Carla Barnett reflected her views at the opening ceremony of the Caribbean week of Agriculture 2023, Dr Barnett is the 8th Caricom Secretary General, she took over her responsibility from 15th August 2021. She is basically an economist. She has also served her duties as a Deputy Secretary General of the Caricom, Caribbean Community from the year 1997 to 2002.
While addressing everyone in the event, she stated that “I am very pleased to join you for this Opening Ceremony of the 17th Caribbean Week of Agriculture, one of the premier activities on the Region’s agriculture calendar. This is the first live staging of the CWA in six years and we are understandably enthusiastic about the week ahead.”

As CWA Opening ceremony is being held at Bahamas so the Prime Minister of Bahamas, Philip Davis welcomed everyone presented at the event and also stressed upon the obstacles faced in the agriculture sector. He also shared that how Caribbean countries is adapting innovations to cope up with all such barriers.

PM also remarked his views on the theme, he stated “Accelerating Vision 25 by 2025 is more than just a slogan. It’s our shared mission. It’s an ambitious journey that recognizes the urgency of our present and potential of our future.

This opening ceremony was attended by the various ministers of the agriculture sector. In this event people were also awarded with the awards such as Farmer of the year and the Youth Farmer of the Year respectively.
