Prime Minister Gaston Browne has promised to strengthen international relations as his Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party released manifesto earlier this week. Recognizing the accomplishments of the current government, he added that the country gained international regard and recognition all around the world under ABLP, which has far outstripped the geographical boundaries.

As per the manifesto, Antigua and Barbuda has made its place in the world as a respected nation while leading the battle to limit and control the damaging impacts of Climate Change with a vision of protecting the Small Island Developing States which have suffered the effects and losses without any compensation.

In such an adverse and global level crisis, very few leaders of the small nations hold the courage and vision to challenge other established and superpower countries, and Prime Minster Gaston Browne has shown the character and courage to put his government first along with the residents' interests of Antigua and Barbuda and other small neighbour states, informed the manifesto.

In addition, the ABLP stated that it was a crystal-clear truth when an Antigua and Barbuda Leader, as the Prime Minister of the state, was heroic enough to act as the co-founder and co-chairperson of the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law (COSIS), to provide the nation with justice in climate issues.

Furthermore, the manifesto also threw light on the Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), which is recognized as the first step towards seeking compensation and justice for loss and damage. It mentioned, “The ITLOS has also played a vital role and agreed to oral hearings regarding the case; they have set the deadlines until March 2023 to complete their submissions. The international system is listening and acting because small Antigua and Barbuda had the courage to stand up and raise its voice.”

Emphasizing the relationship of the country with the Caribbean Community and OAS, it informed that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has been part of the Permanent Council of the OAS twice and has contributed a vital role in the conflicting resolution and constitutional restoration in several countries. The ABLP government has been maintaining close relationships with sister states of the (CARICOM) Caribbean Community and Common Market and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. Antigua and Barbuda have led CARICOM's work on financial services, particularly in warding off the threat of the withdrawal of correspondent banking relations. In addition to this, it outlined that Antigua and Barbuda has punched greater than its weight. Manifesto of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party highlighted that the government of Antigua and Barbuda, under the leadership of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the nation has also become well-known for its leadership role in the Alliance of Small Island States at the United Nations and for its principled positions on international issues at the Organization of American States (OAS).

In addition to this, it stated that Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the former Prime Minister of Norway. Erna Solberg served as the co-chair of the UN expert panel to develop the multi-dimensional vulnerability index, designed to bring more inclusive financial assistance to small island developing states.

Further, the manifesto put light on the beneficial relations made by PM Gaston Browne-led ABLP. It informed that under the serving period of the ABLP (Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party) Government, the nation has also developed and formed close bilateral relations with over 145 countries, by which it enjoys several benefits for the people, such as visa-free access and travel.

“The alliances have benefited the people and residents of Antigua and Barbuda to travel hassle-free and to most of the globe,” it added.

In addition to this, it stated, “The beneficial relationships formed by the Gaston Browne government have maintained helpful mutual understandings along with economic connections with some friends such as the United States of America, Canada, the People's Republic of China, Cuba, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Venezuela.”

These relations have each contributed to one aspect or another of Antigua and Barbuda's infrastructural development; the manifesto informed the public.
