PM Gaston Browne attends inauguration of CARICOM Saudi Arabia Summit

PM has been building ties with numerous Middle Eastern States and stated that he is pleased that Antigua and Barbuda is pioneering the efforts to cultivate relations with Saudi Arabia.

Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne, with his fellow CARICOM Heads of Government, attended the inaugural ceremony of the Saudi Arabia-CARICOM Summit on 16 November 2023. The inauguration began in the morning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the capital Riyadh. Prime Minister Browne joined the leaders at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Riyadh on Wednesday. There were heightened anticipations expected ahead of the Summit and set to be discussed. Several topics of mutual interest between CARICOM and Saudi Arabia, such as trade and investment, tourism, climate change, agriculture & food security and transportation, are to be included. He is proud that they are the initiators that have played a part in deeper ties between the oil-rich Gulf state and the CARICOM region. Other regional leaders consisting of CARICOM Chairman, Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness are to be engaged in the high-level talks with King Salman bin Abdulaziz AI Saud and Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman during the one-day investment forum. The present delegations include Works Minister - Maria Browne, Junior Finance Minister - Senator Dwayne George and various other Ambassadors to the Middle East and Europe. Prime Minister Gaston Browne expects a productive and successful meeting as he is going to lead an Antigua and Barbuda delegation to the First Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 16 November 2023, with an Investment Forum on 17 November 2023. PM Gaston Browne departed the V.C. Bird International Airport on Tuesday, 14 November 2023, for Riyadh. Browne left the airport with Works and Housing Minister - Maria Browne, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance - Dwayne George, Prime Minister of Grenada - Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis - Dr Terrance Drew and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia - Philip Pierre. The Prime Minister will return on Saturday with other members of the Antigua and Barbuda. In the absence of Browne, Attorney General Sir Steadroy Cutie Benjamin will serve as the Acting Prime Minister. As per the information, the two-day event also considers Ambassadors Colin Murdoch, Gilbert Boustany, Sami AI Mufleh, Jeffrey Hadeed and Boris Latour. The trip is sponsored by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
