Allure of the Seas cancels planned stops in St Kitts

The Allure of the Seas, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, has cancelled several calls to St Kitts’ Port Zante.

WIC News understands that the federation’s Ministry of Tourism and the St Kitts Tourism Authority have been advised of a propulsion issue with the Royal Caribbean International ship.

The ship, which is 362m (1,187ft) in length and weights around 100,000 tons, is expected to head to a dry dock for repairs.

It will no longer stop in St Kitts the scheduled dates, which were 7 September, 5 October, 2 November, 28 December, and 25 January.

St Kitts and Nevis first welcomed the Oasis-class vessel in December 2011, at a time when the Allure of the Seas was the world’s largest passenger ship.

It has since been been eclipsed by her sister ship, Harmony of the Seas.

The cruise liner has been based out of Port Everglades, near Fort Lauderdale in Florida, since its maiden voyage in 2010 – although Allure of the Seas did spend one season sailing the Mediterranean Sea.

From November 2018 it will move to a new home port in Biscayne Bay, Maimi, where Royal Caribbean is constructing a new cruise terminal.
